Miniatura, which is but a week away, has a lot to offer this time. There are many demonstrations to watch. Danny Shotton was at the Cranmore Park show in November with some of the old machine tools that he uses to make his miniatures, many of which are themselves tools. Having interviewed Danny years ago I know he is a real enthusiast who has been collecting machine tools for many years. It is fascinating to watch him work, I escaped from my stand quite a lot last show to stand and gawp.
Wood Supplies on L3 are also doing demos all weekend, there was a point in my miniature career when I had a very small saw and not much else, if this is you…….
Perhaps you’ve been miniaturising so long you’re a bit of a basket case, in which case head off to the demos at C&D crafts. Christine and David were another couple I interviewed for a magazine, Christine told me that, preparing for a show, she sometimes made baskets until her fingers bled. I have every confidence that making one basket from a kit, just to see if you can, will not be dangerous at all.
The British Polymer Clay guild and W. Hobby, the very long running magazine, (have you spotted the dolls house made from Hobby’s plans in episodes of ‘Call the Midwife’?) will also be there with demos and tools.
There are also several new exhibitors, who I’ll tell you about next time. You might want to go looking smart enough to be a film star, because I do hear the cameras will be circulating throughout the show to make a film similar to the one you can see if you click the link below. You never know, Miniatura could fill your house and make you the next viral Internet star, all in the one weekend!
