Well here we are in 2010. Let’s have a look around. Behind us, globally, a decade of general stupidity.
I think on balance a school report for the first decade of the second millennium would have to say: Humanity has not done very well this term. It has not got to grips with the major issues; despite having the resources to care for all its young it continues to over-indulge some and starve others, thus creating dangerous imbalances. Instead of addressing these it seems to have spent much time and attention on trivial matters. It is not taking a long-term view of the situation at all and doesn’t appear to have realised that it is only a guest bed bug on the surface of the planet. If it continues to irritate Gaia by pulling the blankets off the poles, it should not be surprised if she turns over in her sleep and squashes it. Meanwhile it should try to get along better with the other parasites, many of which are disappearing, even the ones who had some good answers.
Ahead of us a bright shiny new year, which we haven’t had time to stuff up yet, though no doubt even as you read this some politician, dictator or terrorist is giving the matter their full attention.
However, keep your spirits up and your powder dry, here at JaneLaverick.com we take a lighter hearted view of life because if you have to wade in the clarts the wading is easier with a laugh on your lips and a song in your heart. Or, indeed, the other way round. Coming next 2010 for all the signs.
