Mainly ‘ouch’.
The ends of the bones in my wrist are not meeting, despite being re-plastered at an agonising angle, so I’m off into surgery today to have them wired together.
This is most instructive. At last, considering the very small doll I shall show the surgeon when I ask if I’ll still be able to do this, I do finally appreciate what I can do.
I can make porcelain dolls under an inch and a half tall that can move. I can make fully articulated glass eyed dolls with hair you can brush under three inches tall and a load of other similarly skilled small stuff. I took both my hands for granted and spent so much time publicising what other people could do, I never really thought about what I could do.
So if I come through this with all my abilities intact, I’m going to give a lot more concentration to what I can do. Prices will go up. I’ll spend longer on each doll and enjoy it, and I’ll be a bit freer with publicity for me in other places.
If I don’t, I’ll write because I’ve discovered you can type a blog with one hand, not fast but you can.
I shall also be asking the surgeon if I’ll be able to play the concert piano after the op and be very pleased if he says yes because I couldn’t before.
Oh dear, what a palaver.
