Miniaturists come in many flavours, one of which is the stuffer. This is a specialist, safe, form of hoarding. If you have been transfixed lately by the spate of television programmes featuring homes into which the owners can no longer get, because of the stuff and if you fear you may go the same way, read on. As with all things miniature, what is appalling in reality is often adorable, hilarious or breath taking in miniature.
In fact one of the things wrong with beginner’s dolls’ houses is lack of realism due to dearth of stuff. If you have ever bought a dolls’ house shop and wondered how on earth you were going to fill it and with what and you happen to live around Ontario, you could be in luck.
This is just one of the shops that Julie Dewar, of Westwinds Miniatures will be teaching over the weekend of July 7th and 8th at Petite Images, 223 Queen Street, Port Perry, Ontario. The Saturday class is full but there are still three places available for Sunday. Part two will be over the weekend of August 25th.
These classes, called Threads and Thimbles, are in 12th scale, the standard dolls’ house scale. The display boxes are ready made and included in the price, what Julie will be teaching is the stuffing.
As you can see, there are choices, and once you get going, no doubt you can add your own personal touches. Far be it from me to say the C word, but a completed box or a box and the bits to fill it might be a nice present for that festival at the end of the year where we give presents; this is exponentially better than a pair of socks.
As is this.
More details at the Westwinds website and contact details should you wish to do this workshop.
Say no to empty shops! Save yourself from Dearth of Invaders! Fill up with stuff! Go and have a look
Meanwhile, when I get a minute, I’m going to start on the bedroom of the configurations 48th scale house, made in a Tim Holtz Configurations box, so that you can get started and see what you need ahead of shopping at Miniatura, which is only two and a bit months away.
